Kerry McCarthy Adams, BS, M.Ed, ITFS-P
Developmental Therapist
Kerry graduated from Boston University with a BS in Elementary Education and from Lesley University with a M.Ed. in Creative Arts in Learning. She has over ten years of experience working with children from birth through twelve years, including in day care, preschool, elementary and middle school settings. Kerry has worked with children with a wide range of abilities and needs including, but not limited to, developmental delays, ADHD, Fragile X, and Muscular Dystrophy. She holds a North Carolina Teaching License in Elementary Education.
Before moving with her family to North Carolina, Kerry lived and taught in Tanzania and England. She is the mother of two charming and active boys, one of whom has been diagnosed with Fragile X. As a result, she can relate to parents’ experiences as they seek support for their child’s specific needs. Kerry relishes the opportunity to collaborate with parents as advocates for their child. She is sensitive to and respectful of each family’s experience, as well as cultural background. From her experience in collaboration, she has learned that each partnership with a family is unique and must be approached with an open mind.
As her understanding and appreciation for young children grows, Kerry continually extends her knowledge of early childhood education in new ways. She loves to research resource materials (including books, videos, websites and organizations) and to share this information with her families. She attends workshops whenever possible, and found these recent workshops informative and thought-provoking: Beyond the NICU (Serving Families with Premature Infants), Supporting the Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs of Infants and Toddlers, and Using Sign Language with Infants and Toddlers.
